"ATTENTION! ATTENTION! An explosion of talent occurred at 7:00pm, April 21st at the San Francisco Design Center where SFSU was holding its annual fashion show.
On April 21st, 2011 the apparel design and merchandising students put on show that would blow professional runway shows out of the water. Packed with creativity, youth and excitement, the show featured designs from apparel design students of San Francisco State and was orchestrated by the apparel merchandising students.
The show began with a performance by San Francisco State dancers which enticed the audience and led them into the start of the individual looks designers created. Inspiration came from childhood experiences, nature, and technology and fully demonstrated just how creative the students of SFSU are.
Leading into the collections each designer created was Karina Castrejon's Simply Lovely line featuring the most elegant, flirtatious designs using romantic colors of pale pinks and purples. The fabric flowed off the models skins, and I desperately craved for one of her designs after the models walked off the stage.
Being a fan of anything navy and white striped, another designer that caught my attention was Nicole Thompson's Ship to Shore line featuring colors of red, white, and blue, she took it upon herself to create a line of nautical themed garments with a very modern, preppy twist.
The show came to a close with a great representation of the creative talent laid hidden behind the doors of SFSU. Kathryn Ryder, a design student, created a line of not only of three bridesmaids dress but three beautiful wedding gowns suitable for an upscale bridal salon. The last dress to come out was a beautiful, princess like gown, with a big, poufy skirt that became detachable so that the dress turned into a short, flirty number perfect for dancing at the reception.
If you missed out on Runway 2011: Enchantment be sure to come to SFSU's Fall show for it is expected to just as outstanding, and even more packed with creativity than this Spring's. "
